Winnipeg by Merrythought - 33cm

Merrythought

Catalogue number: BKB13WP

Winnipeg was the pet bear of British vet, Lieutenant Harry Colebourn who while travelling across Canada, bought the orphaned cub and named her after his adoptive hometown.

'Winnie' then accompanied Colebourn to England in 1914 and was placed in the care of London Zoo during his deployment to France. From 1915 until her passing in 1934, Winnie remained at London Zoo, and became a favourite of young Christopher Robin, son of AA Milne, who was a regular visitor during the early 1920s - thus inspiring the name of Milne's beloved character, Winnie The Pooh.

This gorgeous bear, inspired by the real Canadian black bear who played an important role in the origins of AA Milne's famous tales, has been crafted from soft, black alpaca fabric with a contrasting cream coloured muzzle, Winnipeg features life-like eyes, a sculpted black nose and embroidered claw detailing on her paws pads.

Winnipeg is individually numbered as part of a limited edition of only 1926 pieces worldwide and comes with a pure cotton drawstring Merrythought bag.
