Winnipeg the black bear was born in 1914 in Canada. She was looked after by a Lieutenant from the Canadian cavalry regiment and came to Britain with him. When the regiment left Britain, Winnipeg needed a home and was adopted by London Zoo, where a certain young boy developed a special affection for her and named his own teddy bear after her. That boy was Christopher Robin, son of the author A.A.Milne and the bear was immortalised in his children's stories as Winnie the Pooh.
Winnipeg has been produced as an ornament to commemorate 100 years since her birth. She is made from the finest black mohair and has a brown muzzle. Her arms are jointed and she has a loop so she can be hung up.
She is limited to only 1914 pieces and comes with her numbered certificate in a Steiff gift box with its original protective cardboard outer sleeve.
