Margarete Memorial Teddy Bear by Steiff - 29cm

Catalogue number: 006821

The Margarete Memorial teddy bear pays homage to the unconventional and courageous innovator Margarete Steiff; founder of the Steiff company. In one of the last photographs of Margarete, she can be seen holding a brand new bear Baho. The angle of Margarete's hand and the cap that Baho is wearing make his ears look pointed and almost cat-like. Local artist Otto Neubrand captured the scene in an oil painting in 1947 and in 2019, to mark the 110th anniversary of Margarete's death, the Margarete Memorial teddy bear has been created in the image of her companion in this photograph.

Made from the finest white mohair which is beautifully accented with grey airbrushing and black embroidered claws, this exquisite bear has pointed ears and brown glass eyes. He is limited to 1,100 pieces and comes with his numbered certificate in a Steiff gift box with its original protective cardboard outer sleeve.
